Brown To Present At Pi Sigma Alpha National Conference

2015 Jan 13

Trevor Brown, class of 2015 from Springfield, OH, will present his summer research project at the second annual meeting of the Pi Sigma Alpha National Conference Feb. 14, 2015, in Washington, D.C.

A political science and English double major, Brown will share his analysis of how mainstream media covered the minimum wage policy issue.

"I'm incredibly excited," Brown said. "The project was a lot of hard work, and I'm glad folks are interested in what I've studied."

Brown's project began last summer when he received a Wittenberg University Board of Director's Grant to conduct an independent research project. With both the skills he has acquired in the classroom and guidance from Staci Rhine, professor of political science who specializes in media and politics, Brown was able to identify and analyze over 300 hundred news and opinion articles along roughly 15 different measures.

Citing his minor in journalism and particular interest in media studies, Brown said this project was in his wheelhouse.

"While I worked on it everyday and treated it as a full-time job, the project didn't feel like work," Brown said. "It was certainly one of the most interesting and fulfilling summers I've had at Wittenberg."

In his free time, Brown writes for Wittenberg's student-run newspaper, The Torch, and remains politically active through such advocacy groups as the Clark County Peace Alliance.
