Wittenberg to host Propel Ohio Regional Gathering

2017 Mar 23

Springfield, Ohio - Propel Ohio is sponsored by Ohio Campus Compact (OCC) and U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) and allows participants to engage with college students on specific challenges that Ohio is currently facing. The event is hosted by the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Civic and Urban Engagement and will be a regional gathering of students, faculty and staff from area OCC member colleges and universities focusing on educating attendees on childhood poverty issues in their regional area and to connect them with valuable resources in order to dig deeper into the issues. Participants will also learn how other area campuses are addressing these issues.

Approximately 17 students from OCC member colleges and universities, including the University of Dayton, Wright State University, Clark State Community College and Sinclair Community College, will be attending the gathering. Wittenberg students participating are Leah Markovich '17 of Delta, Ohio, Hannah Kesig '18 of Columbus, Ohio, Jackson Dickman '19 of Troy, Ohio, and Kassandra Cogswell '20 of Oakwood, Ohio. The four attended the statewide 2016 Propel Ohio Collegiate Leadership Summit in October at the University of Dayton. The summit focused on civic engagement in higher education and connected college students with information and resources to help address critical issues of childhood education, health, food security and housing in local communities.
